Your Dog and Calamari Squid, The Downside

There are actually a few different reasons that you do not want to feed your dog calamari, essentially making sure that your dog never gets to eat this type of seafood.  Here is how calamari is able to cause your dog harm.

Potential Allergic Reactions

Calamari is a seafood that can be prepared in many different ways.  Some of these will include baking, grilling, frying, and even steaming.  Since calamari is a very nutritious food, it just so happens that it is also packed full of protein and a very low-fat food.  However, you must keep in mind that the way that the calamari is prepared will have a huge impact on all of the nutritional elements that calamari is able to provide your dog with.  Essentially, there is a good chance that your dog will be allergic to calamari as they don’t regularly eat seafood.

For example, if you decide that you will feed your dog fried calamari, when it is fried, all of the nutritional value is essentially stripped away from it.  So, when it comes to nutrition, your dog is essentially only eating a bunch of fried foods, which is never going to be good for them.  Another example is if you decide that you will grill the calamari you plan on feeding your dog.  In this case, you will be adding tons of saturated fats (the bad ones) to the calamari.  And then factor in the different salts and spices that you use to season it and you have a potential to put your dog and their digestive health into a serious predicament.

Potential Severe Medical Problems

Feeding your dog calamari can potentially cause them some very serious medical problems.  This is going to be even more true if you feed them fried calamari.  The amount of saturated fats that come along with that fried calamari is going to be very unsafe for your dog, as well as yourself.  Since this type of calamari is unsafe for you to eat, what makes you think that it is acceptable for your dog to eat?

When your dog is allowed to eat fried calamari, it will eventually lead to them becoming obese.  When your dog is obese, they will be at a much higher risk for contracting some very serious medical problems.
