Gabi up with the best in
Berwick Forest racing

Do we really have to pose for this photo
Gabi (centre) with her best friends Merlot (left) and Tara (right).
GABI attended the sled races at Berwick Forest on June 29th-30th. Her first race was on Saturday afternoon. This year was a bit harder with a hill about 800 metres long that both dog and musher had to run up, a total distance of 5.5km.

We started great, but then a problem developed with my scooter and we had a bit of a crash (no damage to Gabi but damage to me and the scooter). We carried on for the remainder of the race and still ended in 10th place out of 15. On Sunday morning we made good and picked up three placings and four minutes in time.

One hour later Gabi was racing again and came first for the second year running in the junior race, towing Bradley over a one kilometre course and winning by 11seconds over dogs that had not raced earlier in the day.

The trophy is back on the mantelpiece for another year!

Gabi has gained a lot of respect since last year's race and a lot of people ask after her and want to see her race.

I entered our new golden retriever Merlot (above) in the local championship show at the weekend and managed to gain a first in the puppy dog class on both days, so we feel pretty pleased with him.

He is one week off being 12 months old and weighs in at about 33 kg. - Murray Friedrich
