Symposium offers guidance
on canine sporting injuries

AN interesting symposium will be held in mid-January next year and although those attending the veterinary conference will receive automatic registration, other interested parties are invited to register and attend - those caring for sporting dogs will have a strong interest in the lectures.

The University of Florida (UFL), College of Veterinary Medicine's Center for Veterinary Sports Medicine is hosting the 18th annual international Canine Sports Medicine Symposium to be held January 12-13, 2002 in Orlando, Florida USA. The symposium will again be held in conjunction with the North American Veterinary Conference. Please note that the location of the symposium will be The Caribe Royale.

There will be shuttle service between the Marriott World Center and the Caribe Royale and other participating North American Veterinary Conference hotels. Please call 407-238-8000 for making reservations at The Caribe Royale. We have an outstanding variety of international speakers attending, from all phases of the sporting/working dog industry with a continued emphasis on racing greyhounds. We haven't forgotten the roots of this symposium which centered around the racing greyhound.

Dr Geoffrey Clark from the Veterinary Surgery of New England is our featured Yarborough Lecturer and will give three presentations on popular canine sports and rehabilitation of competitive and working dogs. Dr Clark is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a recognised authority in the field of canine sports medicine and the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic dogs.

Dr W. Preston Stubbs from Alameda Animal Hospital in Denver, Colorado, will have the honour of serving as this year's Mark S. Bloomberg lecturer. Dr Stubbs is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and well versed in the treatment of canine joint diseases.

Registration: The registration fee for individuals attending the International Canine Sports Medicine Symposium but not registered for the North American Veterinary Conference is $80.00. This nominal registration fee is possible only because of our generous corporate support (see program for list of sponsors). Please make your cheque payable to the UF Department of Continuing Education and make a notation on the cheque that it is for the Canine Sports Medicine Registration.

We have limited meeting space so it is important that you pre-register.

Individuals registered for the North American Veterinary Conference receive complementary registration to the International Canine Sports Medicine Symposium, but will not receive a proceedings.
