BOOK REVIEW

A Name For Your Dog - Alison DenchA Name for
your Dog
By Alison Dench

A pocket sized book with a heap of value, especially to breeders looking for good dog names for their kennel litters.

This little book contains 550 dog names - many of the names are accompanied by their meanings and for the rest there is a snippet from history such as who of note has owned a dog of that name, or what a dog of that name has itself achieved in history.

Brutus is one that may surprise ... mostly given to large, strong dogs the name in Latin actually means `stupid'!

How about Tequila for a chihuahua ... or Neptune for a water spaniel? Nobu (faithful in Japanese) for an Akita or Laelaps (Greek for storm) suitable for any active breed likely to take over your home with `storm tactics'.

I think it is all in choosing the right name to go with the character of your pup and there is plenty of help here - no use calling a diminutive pup Amazon or a random-bred pup an aristocratic name like Duchess or Duke, Prince or princess. For every pup's breed and character there is the perfect name! EP
