Coat-length gene
discovered

News from GeneSearch is that researchers are investigating a gene that appears to be associated with coat length in dogs. It appears that there were two mutations that caused a longer coat phenotype, and that the wild-type gene is closely associated with a short-haired phenotype.

GeneSearch is requesting joint-venture funds or grant proposals from either profit or non-profit companies, research institutions and breeder organisations with an interest in developing a diagnostic test for coat length.

Co-operative research, investments or grants would be welcomed for this purpose.

Written submissions on development and research in this area are encouraged, and interested parties should call GeneSearch at 301-770-6970(US), or visit the website for further information: www.genesearch.net/COAT.html
