Coat-length gene
discovered
NEWS from GeneSearch is that researchers are investigating a gene that appears to be associated with coat length in dogs. It appears that there were two mutations that caused a longer coat phenotype, and that the wild-type gene is closely associated with a short-haired phenotype.
GeneSearch is requesting joint-venture funds or grant proposals from either profit or non-profit companies, research institutions and breeder organisations with an interest in developing a diagnostic test for coat length.
Co-operative research, investments or grants would be welcomed for this purpose.
Written submissions on development and research in this area are encouraged, and interested parties should call GeneSearch at 301-770-6970(US), or visit the website for further information: www.genesearch.net/COAT.html
NB: It is eight years (at the time of revision) since this article was printed and although the above website is still owned by genesearch it has altered its form and is not now looking for the above style of investment.
