Veterinary conference has
variety of topics planned
THE international veterinary organisation IVIS wishes to bring to the attention of all veterinarians and trainee vets, nurses and students the forthcoming Southern European Veterinary Conference (SEVC) to be held in October 17-19, 2008, in Barcelona, Spain which will offer 12 workshops and wetlabs to choose from.
The Mediterranean city of Barcelona, plays host to the second SEVC to be held at the city’s Congress Centre (CCIB) in October. This year’s SEVC will feature 12 hands-on workshops and wet labs to be held at both the CCIB congress venue and the modern facilities at the UAB Veterinary School, with transport between venues provided by the organisers.
The all-encompassing theoretical scientific programme covering topics from acupuncture to practice management is complemented by the variety of practical classes to be included. Workshops will present invaluable learning opportunities to those attending, giving groups access to the latest technology and information while allowing hands-on practice with the latest know-how, equipment and techniques. Sessions are led by recognised experts in their respective fields of specialisation.
Topics to be covered include:
- Radiographic interpretation of pulmonary patterns: a practical class where small groups can enhance their radiographic interpretation skills under expert guidance.
- Echocardiology. The correct use and interpretation of this useful diagnostic tool workshop is offered in two parts: Theoretical (three hours) and practical with live dogs (three hours).
- Canine abdominal ultrasonography - offering basic ultrasonographic skills.
- Joint stabilization covering stifle and the use of suture bone anchors.
- Advanced canine arthroscopy - operative techniques with practical exercises on stifle arthroscopy.
Dr G Couto co-ordinates two separate workshops at the CCIB: Oncologic cytology and lymph nodes cytology. While Dr J Pastor co-ordinates the blood typing and cross-matching in blood transfusion workshop. The veterinary school once again offers its facilities for two separate workshops on anaesthesia and surgical procedures in rabbits and iguanas.
The week’s events end with the special international equine programme on Sunday at the veterinary school, with the equine dentistry workshop co-ordinated by Dr A Fürst in collaboration with Dr P Farhenkrug and Dr M Prados.
All workshops are conducted in small groups of between 18 and 30 delegates. Places are allocated on a first come-first served basis with individual registration for separate workshops. If you wish to attend, we recommend that you register early and avoid being disappointed. As well as securing your place for the workshops, take advantage of the early registration reduced fee. Visit the SEVC website for further details on individual workshop content and fees.
Organizers would like to see you enjoy this wonderful Mediterranean climate together with fellow animal health care professionals from all over the world. SEVC presents a busy schedule with enough breaks and enough opportunities to relax between lectures: take the time to enjoy a walk around the captivating city of Barcelona or to simply stroll through the extensive commercial exhibition to sample a variety of practical, economic deals as well as sneaking a peep at the latest products, services, and equipment available on the market today, courtesy of the sector's main retailers.
Make the best use of six days: Develop your professional skills, take a break and enjoy a week in Barcelona with sun and fun, together with expert advice and education. Your mind and body will thank you for it!
