Book review:

Aggression in Dogs:

Practical management, prevention and behaviour modification
by Brenda Aloff
Price: $49.95

I did enjoy this book and put it to practical use as soon as I felt able. This is one book that gets to the point quickly and stays with it. The result is a dog that is better adjusted.

The book is well organised to help the reader understand more clearly - and it works. There is no time and space lost just flitting around the subject - but you do have to read it with dedication. No easy-read, it will keep you on your toes planning and working out strategy, then abandoning it and working out a better strategy. But your dog will benefit so it will be worth the hard work. This book is quite the best and most detailed I have read about dog aggression and the best part is that it doesn't just give instructions and expect you to follow - for the most part it also tells you why - I wish all education books did the same.

Your dog will be much happier too, as following the book means you teach them to look to their human for guidance. If their human is not frightened then they should not be frightened. Learning how to handle an aggressive dog does not mean the dog is cured - it simply means that its owner has learned how to handle the aggression and why it happens and how to keep the dog safe from the situations that cause aggressive episodes.

A book really worth purchasing for anyone who has reason to need help for their dog. - EP
