Book review:

The Ultimate Dog Treat Cookbook:

Homemade goodies for man's best friend
By Liz Palika,
Illustrated by Troy Cummings
Price: $14.99

THE recipes in this book are fully tested on local dogs and as well as canine approval they were sent to a number of veterinarians and gained their approval also. There are 50 recipes in the book, as well as a section on pets that require special foods, nutrition tips, how to store the treats and the best way to cook them. There are no expensive or special-order ingredients used here all the ingredients are most likely already in your cupboard or freezer, but if not, they can be purchased almost anywhere. Some of the recipes included are birthday blueberry pupcakes, taco treats, frozen magic meatballs, Halloween treats and even home-made treats to help you with training.

The book is illustrated throughout in full colour - fun pictures to go with fun recipes - and it is obvious the illustrator is a skilled and seasoned artist.
Liz Palika has written at least 40 books, including The Australian Shepherd: Champion of Versatility, which won the Maxwell Award from the Dog Writers Association of America. She has written extensively on pet nutrition, and her work has been published in Newsweek, the Saturday Evening Post, Dog World, Dog Fancy, and the AKC Gazette.

If you are looking for a gift for a dog owner then this could be the ideal choice. - EP
