Book review:
Fancy Nancy and the posh puppy
By Jane O'connor

THIS very well illustrated 32-page book is aimed at readers from four to eight years old. Those who already know the Fancy Nancy books will want to add this one to their collection.
Fancy Nancy's parents decide to add a dog to the family and when Nancy hears that she is very happy, picturing herself walking a papillon or some other small, delicate, fluffy and perfectly groomed canine companion. But the rest of the family want a large, common dog. Nancy is not amused.
However, as she discovers more about the large and unglamorous dog that they adopt from a shelter she discovers that it is not appearance that makes a dog part of the family, but simply its capacity for fun.
The book teaches children not only about enjoying an animal in the family, but also the 'fancy' words that Nancy uses are geared to teach new and very useful words to young readers.
Fancy Nancy books are hugely popular with young readers and for those still too young to read alone they would be perfect as bedtime stories. - EP
