ON Saturday May 12 the Barkitecture announcement of winners and auction was held at the Young-Williams Center in Knoxville.

It was an evening to remember for the approximately 300 people who attended as well as for the Center. $55,000 was raised to help the Center with its work.

Those attending enjoyed food, drinks and music while they bid on the fun silent auction.

Then came the live auction where spectacular dog houses and cat condos, custom-made by local architects, designers and builders, were offered for sale.

The public choice award winner was "Bones Away," designed and built by the City-Wide Sertoma Club. The inspiration for this house was the historic Clinton Highway gas station.

The highest selling price of the evening went to "Spilt Milk", which sold for $1700. There were 19 dog and cat houses sold in the auction as well as over 100 silent auction items which made this a night a must to repeat next year.

Barkitecture 2007 was a huge success, and a spokesperson for the Center said the hands-down winners of Barkitecture 2007 were the animals cared for at the Young-Williams Animal Center.

The Animal Center holds regular Chip 'n' Clip days where owners can bring their pets for microchipping and nail clipping at very reasonable prices - microchips $20 and nail clips $5.

Phone Donna 215-6662 for information about the next Chip 'n' Clip Day, or visit the website at: http://www.knoxpets.org/

Volunteer help is needed every day at the Center, so anyone wishing to volunteer please also phone Donna for information.

For help with pet veterinary problems listen to Ask the Vet Radio on WNOX News/Talk 100.3 every Sunday 10am - noon with Tracy Dewhurst.

Pet of the Week is featured every Wednesday at 7.10am on 93.1 FM in The Point's Morning Show with Kevin, as well as on the first Thursday of each month on the Noon News on WVLT-TV, Channel 8.

The Young-Williams Animal Center has a large program for continuing education on pets of all kinds, and is happy to assist new owners with information and guidance on care of their chosen pet.
