Vet hospital celebrates
national pet week
by Chris Beuoy
THE Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine celebrated National Pet Week, May 7 to 13, by highlighting the bond that the veterinarians, students, and staff have with their own companion animals.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital provides care to 15,000 dogs, cats, horses and other companion animal patients each year. Clients who bring their animals to the teaching hospital know that the expert staff takes excellent care of all animal patients.
During National Pet Week, clients saw many of the pets that rule the roost when the experts go home. Staff members who submitted a digital photo of their pet wore buttons that featured their own pet with the words I [heart] My Pet.
The pet photos were also posted online at the teaching hospital website: www.cvm.uiuc.edu/vth/. Recognizing the important role that pets play in human lives, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in 1981 established National Pet Week to promote responsible pet ownership, celebrate the human-animal bond, and promote public awareness of veterinary medicine.
