Sheila Harper and Anne Lill Kvam have been working with dogs for many years and have had a huge amount of success in dealing with training and behaviour problems. The information to be presented here is essential knowledge for anyone who has anything to do with dogs, either on a professional basis, such as vets, behaviourists, trainers or breeders, or for those who have any contact with their own pet or other dogs in all situations.

Learn an innovative, gentle and positive approach to understanding and working with dogs using their natural language and abilities.

Be prepared for a real insight into canine communication and conflict solving. Simply by using the correct body language and by understanding our dog's needs, we can help reduce a build up of stress and consequently help fearful, excitable and hyperactive dogs. Learn what your dog is thinking, how to communicate with him, and make a start with solving problems and building good relationships.

An exciting programme will be presented offering practical and theoretical work together with slides and video footage providing a basis for analysis along with case histories.

Sheila Harper
Sheila is a professional trainer, behaviour counsellor and lecturer in canine behaviour and training. She is a member of the UK Registry of Canine Behaviourists, Secretary of the Pet Dog Trainers of Europe and is one of only five associates of Turid Rugaas worldwide.

Since taking on her first rescue dog with dog-dog and dog-human aggression, she has lived, trained and worked with the most problematic rescue dogs. Much of Sheila's knowledge and experience has come through living with dogs, observing their interactions and learning how they deal with difficult situations themselves. She works with problem dogs often of a nervous or fearful disposition or those showing aggression or defensive behaviour. She has practical experience of many other dog-related problems including destruction, stereotypic behaviours, and stress. She uses this knowledge along with the dogs' own language to help resolve conflicts as they arise and has spent a great deal of time rehabilitating dogs and teaching them life skills.

The physical and mental well-being of the animal is of paramount importance to Sheila, and she tackles problems with an underlying consideration of emotional needs. She has trained obedience exercises at a high level and has experience of agility, tracking and clicker training, using a variety of methods in each area.

Sheila lives with six dogs, five of them rescue, including cross breeds, a Border Collie, a Golden Retriever and an Alaskan Malamute.

Anne Lill Kvam
Anne Lill is a professional dog trainer, specialising in nosework. She trained search & rescue dogs to certification in 1989 and studied at Turid Rugaas' Dog Trainers School in 1995. Since 1996 she has worked full time with dogs.

Anne Lill spent two-and-a-half years in Angola training dogs for land mine detection, educating local dog handlers and supervising mine clearance with dogs. Since then she has become a popular speaker, holding seminars and workshops in a whole variety of nose work activities with dogs.

Anne Lill Kvam's work with dogs is based upon the knowledge and respect for the dogs' own language (their calming signals) and their natural behaviour. Through the cooperation between dog and owner during search work, many owners have developed new understanding for what their dogs are capable of. Encouraging dogs to use their natural abilities and instincts ensures that they are channelled into more appropriate alternatives than chasing joggers or rabbits.

Anne Lill is the author of a brand new book on nosework: Kingdom of the Senses.

Sheila and Anne Lill regularly lecture in countries such as Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Japan, Canada and the USA. When they have the opportunity they enjoy working together, and also have close contacts with Turid Rugaas.

Assisting Sheila Harper and Anne-Lill Kvam on tour will be Nicole Mackie from New Zealand and Paul Henshaw from Norway.

Each weekend seminar/workshop is a complete programme. You must attend the whole two and a half days to gain the full understanding and benefit of the programme. Morning and afternoon sessions will intersperse theory and practical work. There are limited places for handlers, and spectators will also be very welcome.
