Home-cooked meals

Beef plate
Ingredients:
220g boiled beef
180g boiled rice
60g boiled root vegetables
2 eggs
Method:
Mix all ingredients together except eggs. Retain the stock from boiling the meat and vegetables, and while still hot, lightly beat the raw eggs into it.
Add a teaspoon of kelp powder and a clove of fresh garlic to the meat mixture and pour the cooled stock over the meal before serving.
Steak and vegetables
Ingredients:
200g raw steak
200g boiled pasta
50g boiled vegetables
dash of cayenne pepper
Method:
Retain the vegetable stock. Mix all the ingredients together, then add stock until mixture is of thick consistency.
Sprinkle mixture with freshly chopped parsley and garlic. Many vegetables do not need to be boiled and can be added to the mixture chopped or grated.
Snacks:
You do want to give your dog a little treat sometimes - a snack before bed or a little extra at lunch time - but you don't want to encourage extra weight. What do you offer?
- A raw, scraped carrot stick - scraping brings the juice smell to the surface making it tastier.
- A slice of hard cheese - about 15g for a 5kg dog.
- Half a small tub of cream cheese or cottage cheese (cottage cheese can be added to any meal).
- Half a sliced apple (you can eat the other half yourself instead of that biscuit).
- Half a tub of plain, unsweetened yoghurt (or half a cup of home-made yoghurt).
- Boiled liver cut into strips and dried in the oven keeps well and all dogs love 1-2 strips as treats.
- A slice of avocado or half a slice of rye bread or biscuit as a mashed avocado sandwich.
- Dogs love most pip fruit - a slice of peach, nectarine, pear, pawpaw; or an apricot or plum (take the pip out of the last two).
