Dog thefts warning
MESSAGE to all dog owners in West Auckland, New Zealand:
We have been advised of a white utility with a white canopy and a red light on top that has been patrolling around the Te Atatu area posing as a dog control van and picking up dogs.
Readers in that area or adjoining areas are advised to be on the lookout for this vehicle and report any sightings to the Police. Genuine Waitakere Animal Welfare and Control Services vehicles are white with a white canopy, and have green writing, including the Waitakere City Council logo, on the doors and an orange light on top. The officers are in uniform and carry identification so are easily distinguished from the fraudsters.
Please keep your dogs well secured and safe on your own property and if these fraudsters visit you, make sure you get a good look at them and give the Police their description straight away!
