Recipes to delight your dog

Liver and vegetable loaf

  • 1 lamb fry (can be a piece of ox liver if preferred)
  • 1kg lean meat (any preferred type - even chicken or boneless fish)
  • Vegetables - whatever you have in the house at the time. Some suggestions are pumpkin, cabbage, zucchini, tomato, carrot, peas or beans, capsicum. Make up to twice as much vegetables as meat.
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 5 cups water or stock
  • 2 stock cubes
  • 2 cups brown rice (rolled oats can be substituted)
  • 1 tablespoon olive or flax oil

Method:
Finely chop or grate the vegetables, chop the meat and cook all ingredients except the oil, until the rice is cooked. If the mixture needs to be thicker add some wholemeal flour, cornflour or cooked pasta.Spoon into a loaf tin (or two, depending on size) and refrigerate.

Steak pasta dish

  • About 60g macaroni (any type of pasta will do)
  • About 1kg stewing steak or gravy beef
  • 3 or 4 cloves garlic
  • Leftover or cooked vegetables
  • Diced bread (or croutons) or some dried kibble (muesli a good substitute)
  • Oil to cook

Method:
While cutting up the steak pre-cook the pasta. Cook the steak and garlic in the oil for about five minutes then add the vegetables and other ingredients. Strain the pasta and stir in to the mixture. Serve in your dog's favourite bowl.

Fish and egg pie

  • 500g boneless fish
  • Milk and water to cook
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 hard boiled eggs
  • 500g cooked rice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Grated carrot or pumpkin
  • Chopped or dried parsley

Method:
Put the fish in a pot and cover with half milk - half water mix. Simmer for 5-10 minutes. Chop and fry the garlic in the oil (lightly) then stir in the cooked rice, fish, chopped eggs, carrot and parsley. Your dog will love it.
